Tatsumi-ryū

Tatsumi-ryū (立身流) is a comprehensive martial tradition — sword and iai at its core, with spear, naginata, and grappling besides — founded by Tatsumi Sankyō (立身三京) of Iyo province in the early Sengoku period, and carried through the Edo period as the house art of the Hotta lords of Sakura domain in Shimōsa; it is today designated an Intangible Cultural Property of Chiba Prefecture. Through that Sakura line it passed into Meiji police kenjutsu, carried by Henmi Sōsuke — one of the first three swordsmen hired into the Keishichō gekken corps in 1879.
