Gassankan or Yueshan-guan (月山館; "Moon Mountain Hall") is the name of a private training activity I lead in the Pacific Northwest that is focused on the development of skill at traditional internal martial arts.

It was in 2005, while visiting the Dewa Sanzan area of Japan, including Gassan Dai Jinja ( 月山大 神社 ) on Mt. Haguro and the Haguro-san Kōtakuji Shōzenin ( 羽黒山荒沢 寺正善院 ) Kogane-do in Haguro-machi, I decided to focus my training exclusively on classical and traditional arts.

I am a formal lineal student of traditional Bagua, Xingyi, and Taiji under Zhang Yun laoshi, disciple of the late grandmaster Wang Peisheng, as part of Yin Cheng Gong Fa North America.

I have also studied several older approaches to Japanese martial arts, most important of which has been Kashima-shinden Jikishinkage-ryū at the Hōbyōkan Dōjō of Dr. David Hall. I received a Hōbyōkan chuden menjo in 2018 and then worked with a small number of people in order to keep training — two of my students now lead Jikishinkage-ryū practice in Seattle.
