Research on Japanese Martial Traditions

Below you can find several ongoin research projects on the classical Japanese martial traditions. First contains material related to the historical Jiki Shinkage-ryū of kenjutsu. Next, analyses of related arts stemming from Kamiizumi-ise-no-kami.

I turn then to the late-Tokugawa military academy called the Kōbusho, its structure, teachers, and the role it played during the downfall of the shogunate, ushering in modernity to Japan.

Much of martial focus shifted at that time towards competitive grappling and mock sword duels that led up the development of Judo and Kendo today, as well as thin currents attmepting to preserve what they could of the past.
